I can hardly believe it’s only been 6 weeks, but she’s settled in wonderfully! First of all, we decided to change her name from Lola to Roxie. She just seemed to need a sparky name. J The first couple of weeks were bumpy because she was so nervous. She took pretty well to me, but it’s taken a lot longer for Patric. It helped a lot when he started hand feeding her at meal times. That seemed to establish some trust and bonding. Now she jumps up in his lap every time he sits in his recliner to watch tv. It wasn’t long after we got her when the ice storm hit. She didn’t want to go outside, but would only do her business on the little rug by the front door. As soon as the weather improved, she would follow Watson outside without much trouble. Recently, we installed a dog door and they LOVE racing through chasing each other! She and Watson have bonded so well. They play several times a day racing and wrestling, then they’ll nap next to each other. She’s very smart and watches everything he does. I keep trying to get a video of them chasing and wrestling in the backyard. When I do, I’ll send it to you. As you can see in one of the pics, she loves it when we put warm laundry on the bed to fold! Lol
I’m so glad that she was saved from euthanasia. She such a resilient little thing. To be so small surviving on her own, I guess she had to be smart and it’s no wonder she was scared of her shadow. She still isn’t always fond of being picked up, but she will allow it and is getting more comfortable with it. In the past week or so, she’s even come to the side of my desk chair and reared up wanting me to put her in my lap! She’s so sweet and I can tell she feels this is her home now.
Thank you for all you and your staff do to give these critters another chance!
